John Hendrix

Anyone who reads any of the nation’s most popular publications has surely seen the whimsical and sometimes incisive illustrations of John Hendrix (South High 1994). His client list includes the most respected magazine and newspaper organizations in the world: The New York Times, The New Yorker, Sports Illustrated, Rolling Stone and Esquire, to name a few.
He also has illustrated book covers for Random House, St. Martin’s Press, Harper Collins, Harcourt Publishing, Farrar-Strauss-Giroux and Greenwillow Books. In addition to his flourishing career as a freelance illustrator, John teaches undergraduate illustration at Washington University in St. Louis. He also is writing and illustrating several picture books for children.
His illustrations have garnered many awards from professional organizations in the art industry. Before coming back to St. Louis, he was an assistant art director of the Op-Ed page at The New York Times and taught illustration at the Parsons School of Design in New York (‘05).
