About the Parkway Alumni Association

The Parkway Alumni Association is a 501(c) 3 tax-exempt organization that is made up of Parkway alumni, staff members, retirees and community members who want to stay in touch with each other and serve and support the Parkway School District.

To fulfill our mission, the PAA has developed several programs:

Alumni News – Published twice a year and has received rave reviews from alumni and teachers alike.  The “class notes” section is the most popular, with everyone sending in their latest and greatest accomplishments. Please mail your updates to: classnotes@parkwayalumni.org

Granting Dreams – Extremely successful, this program provides students with educational opportunities that are above and beyond the scope of the classroom. To date, the PAA has awarded more than $180,000 in monetary grants and filled 100+ community resource grants. This program was started with the idea that if a student meets success in one area of their life it will likely carry over into other areas. By having the students fill out a grant application they have to think through the steps they need to go through to attain their dream/goal. <more>

Alumni Hall of Fame – This program was developed to recognize the personal and professional successes of Parkway grads. The 2010 Hall of Fame inductees will be honored at the Parkway Hall of Fame Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010. <more>

Al Burr Educators Make-A-Difference Fund – This program was started by a group from the inaugural class of the Hall of Fame in honor of Al Burr and the excellence in education that he represents. <more>

Alumni Teacher Recognition Award – This program was developed to recognize that special teacher, administrator or coach who made a significant impact in the lives of his/her students. As part of the program, alumni write letters about their most memorable teacher for publication in the Alumni News.

The Teacher of the Year Award – Teachers receive this award from their peers. The Alumni Association contributes the funds to purchase the Crystal Apples and presents them along with the Superintendent and the Board of Education president at the annual Appreciation Night.

Speaker's Bureau – The Parkway Alumni Association maintains a list of alumni who are willing to speak about their careers and/or hobbies to students in Parkway's classrooms. The bureau is fun for the speakers and motivational for the students.

Alumni Database – A comprehensive secure online database of Parkway graduates. Contact and career information are included in this list. Currently, there are over 64,000 graduates.

Memorial Funds – These are funds designated for the Granting Dreams program. The donations are made in honor of deceased alums or staff members. Currently there are funds in memory of Kurt Schoor, Central ’79, Jason Johnson, North ’89 and Andrea Cohen, North ’76, Christopher Reid, West ’83, Keith Coons, retired Oak Brook teacher and Mark Morley, Central '80. <more>

The programs of the Parkway Alumni Association are supported by donations from alumni and community members who value our mission. The PAA holds events each year to support these programs, a Trivia Night, Golf Tournament, and a Craft Fair at North High. The Parkway Alumni Association is a 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt corporation; therefore donations are tax deductible.
